A Wish and a Warning

Ariel couldn't stop thinking about the sailor — or the song she had sung him.

Deep in a cave at the edge of the kingdom lived an old sea witch, wise in strange and powerful magic.

“I can give you legs to walk on land for three days,” the sea witch said. “But magic always asks for something in return. This time, it will be your voice.”

Ariel thought of the sailor's kind face, took a breath, and agreed.
