A Hard Lesson

The farmer sat down in the yard, feeling the full weight of what he had done.

“We had everything we needed,” his wife said softly, sitting beside him. “One golden egg a day, for as long as we could imagine. And now...”

The farmer nodded, understanding at last. In trying to have it all at once, he had lost everything.
