A woodcutter working nearby heard her cry and came running with his axe.

Startled by the noise, the wolf bolted from the cottage and dashed off into the forest, never to bother anyone in that village again.

Moments later, the real grandmother was found safe in the pantry, where the wolf had locked her away, and she rushed out to hug her granddaughter tightly.
