“Just Cinderella,” her stepmother said quickly, “but she's only a servant girl. It couldn't possibly be her.”

But the messenger insisted every young woman in the house must try.

Cinderella sat down and slipped her foot into the glass slipper. It fit perfectly, as though it had been made for her alone.

The messenger smiled. “We have found her.”
