The Queen's Croquet-Ground

At last Alice reached the garden, where three gardeners shaped like playing cards were busily painting white roses red. They had planted the wrong ones, and feared what the Queen would say.

Then the Queen of Hearts swept in with the King and all her court. “Off with her head!” she shouted at the smallest provocation.

Everyone played croquet with flamingos for mallets and hedgehogs for balls, while soldiers bent over to make the arches. Nothing would stay still, and nobody waited for a turn.
