A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale

The pool was soon crowded with birds and animals who had fallen in too. Dripping wet, they all swam to the shore.

“What we need,” said the Dodo, “is a Caucus-race.” He marked out a course in a circle, and everyone began running whenever they liked and stopped whenever they liked.

“Everybody has won, and all must have prizes!” the Dodo declared.

Then the Mouse began a long and sorrowful tale. But when Alice happened to mention Dinah, her cat, the whole party hurried away.
